When I was six years old, I asked my mom with a straight face, “how do I become a princess?”. Her reply, “marry royality”.

In all the hype of the Royal Wedding, I received an out of the blue Facebook message from Lisa Sim of Sim Minerals. Stating that she thought I looked like Kate, she asked if I would take part in a make-up tutorial that would make me look like the soon to be duchess.

With this being the closest I could get to becoming a princess, the answer was pretty obvious.

While I was at the shoot for Kate Middleton’s engagement look, the crew looked at me and said “could we make you into Audrey Hepburn’s ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ look too?”

Hepburn as Holly Golighty was one of the famed stars most legendary roles.  The answer again was pretty obvious.

WRG? got the opportunity to chat and party with Sydney based DCUP (aka Duncan MacLennan) while he was sweeping through Montreal during one of his Canadian tours.

All of us in the office are fans of his disco house production and can’t help but shake it whenever we heard his and Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘We No Speak Americano’ whenever it was dropped at a party.

It seemed fitting to send out one of our Americans (me… Sarah Karp Ward) to ask him not only nonsense stereotypical Aussie questions but also about his song which in our opinion (and the world’s opinion by how it killed the charts) the top party song of Summer 2010.

Though we think all of her shades are awesome, our favorites are the almost unwearable W.O.W. which were named after punk pioneer Wendy O Williams which feature giant spikes across the front, the more wearable but just as badass black and studded SABATOGE which debuted in September’s Vogue Italia and the super fresh LOVE / HATE CONVERTIBLE CHAIN SUNGLASSES.

We’re not actually sure if you can see out of some of these shades but whatever, they’re awesome.

I’ve been sadly absent with posting on WANARB since my move from New York City to Montreal, Canada.  I’ve been busy eating poutine (if you don’t know what that is, look it up), changing the way I spell from “American English” to the “Queen’s English” (goodbye favorite hello favourite!) and doing a lot of work with a website up here called What’s Really Good? like making this awesome music video lookbook (sexy bra shot from the vid above!)

The video lookbook is for California based clothing company ORISUE and features some of the Canadian DJ’s they sponsor and the original music production of Montreal’s own Lunice.  The storyline is about a DJ groupie girl and her night out as she “romances” these DJ’s (maybe loosely based on my life… kidding…. or not kidding…..)

One of my favorite websites on the internet is Look At This Fucking Hipster. The site by Joe Mande explains the age old, ok well few year old question, “Is that a hipster?” with ridiculous pictures of hipsters along with hilarious commentary. When I was in Montreal in July, I saw a hipstery gentleman on the street with a old fashioned type writer and a sign that said “POEMS”. I asked him where he was from and when he said “Williamsburg, Brooklyn”, I couldn’t resist replying “of course you are”. I mentioned that I too was visiting from NYC and he asked if he could catch a ride back with us. Sadly, there was ummm not enough space…. I hope that he sold enough poems for a bus back to the city. Being a fan of LATFH, I had to send the picture of him into the site. About a month later, I got an email response asking if the picture could be in Mande’s book and if I would like photo credit. Of course the answer was “YES!” The book arrived into stores and I had the opporunity today to go check it out and see my “work” and name in print. Go check out the site for some guaranteed laughs and buy yourself a copy, I couldn’t imagine a better coffee table book. I am beyond excited and proud to be part of this!

I wondered when the iPad was coming out how it would effect the world of DJing and music production. With it’s compact size it seemed like a great and easy to travel with new tool. I got wind of this YouTube vid of Rana Sobhany who is calling herself “The World’s First iPad DJ”. In her demo, she shows how she uses two iPads and a mixer to create a set. She states “if you want to try DJing, this is definitely the way to do it”. Two iPads, the applications, the mixer, etc. will cost you less than $1300 while a laptop, Serato, two CDJ’s, mixer, etc will cost you closer to $3500. There are applications for looping, sound effects, changing bpms, and even adding Daft Punk snipets into your set. All of the applications she used were created before the iPad. This video is a little long and some of what she says is unnecessary in my opinion but it’s interesting to see what can be done with an iPad.

Are iPad DJ’s going to be the next craze? Will even more people attempt to become a DJ with this lower costing equipement? Will I be subjected to more bad DJ’s? Think it will be hard to iPad DJ with greasy fingers?

I have always loved disco but recently, I’ve been feeling it more and more.  So I thought I would dedicate this post all to the wonderful world of DISCO HOUSE!  We begin our disco house travels in The Netherlands.  ‘Searching’ from Dutch producer  Martin Poulus under the name Webqueawry  is a song I have on repeat. I can’t decide if I love the original or the Mam Remix so I’m posting them both.

Next stop is Australia with DCUP ’s ‘To Be In Love’ (Universe Remix).  I scoured the interwebz trying to figure out who this Universe character is but I’ve come up empty handed.  All that really matters is that this song is hot!

Finally we go to Canada (I love being able to share some Canadian music with you all. I’m just so excited about the move).  First stop is Vancouver for U-Tern ’s ‘Style, Class, Flair’.  Check out more from this guy, his music is disco house deliciousness.  Finally we head to my new home, Montreal for ‘Swine Flew’, the new debut track from”The Gentleman’s D.J.” Leon Zane.  Leon Zane is the alter ego of Andrew “DJ F.U.N.K.” Ward and from what I’ve heard, a lot more is coming from this character.  Now I have the urge to throw up my tallest platforms and find the nearest disco ball.

About a year ago, four guys from Sweden who were all accomplished songwriters and producers in their own right came together to make the band The Amplifetes Their debut single “It’s My Life” was recently featured in Italian fashion designer Roberto Cavalli’s promo campaign. I’m really digging their songs but it’s their music videos that do it for me. They’re innovative and really artfully original. Check them out and you’ll see what I mean. And if you’re reading this lead singer, I love your beard.
